Renault Korea announced on Tuesday the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Busan Metropolitan Government to invest in expanding production facilities for electric powertrain vehicles at its Busan plant.

The MOU, formalized on Monday, reinforces Renault Korea’s investment strategy unveiled at the APEC CEO Summit Korea 2025, with the objective of increasing its manufacturing capacity for electrified vehicle models.

Significant upgrades have already been implemented at the Busan plant to enable flexible manufacturing. Last year, Renault Korea invested in 68 new facilities, creating a versatile mixed-production line capable of simultaneously producing vehicles with internal combustion engines, hybrid powertrains, and fully electric systems.

The Busan facility currently manufactures hybrid models including the Filante, Grand Koleos, and Arkana, alongside the all-electric Polestar 4.

The enhancements allow the plant to manufacture up to eight different models across four platforms on a single production line. Furthermore, the plant has been recognized as one of Renault Group’s five global production hubs under its “futuREady” strategy, highlighting its importance in bolstering markets outside of Europe.

Busan City is also considering adopting the Filante as its official government vehicle.

The Filante is a new E-segment crossover vehicle that merges the practicality of an SUV with the comfort and refinement of a sedan. Key features include Renault’s signature illuminated lozenge logo, a premium lounge-style interior, a hybrid E-Tech powertrain delivering up to 250 horsepower, and AI-powered connectivity services.
