The National Pension Service (NPS) announced on Monday a new strategic partnership with BlackRock, the world’s leading asset manager. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) aims to enhance collaboration across all asset classes.

This agreement establishes a comprehensive knowledge-sharing framework between the NPS and BlackRock. The framework will encompass global macroeconomic trends, market analysis, asset allocation strategies, portfolio construction techniques, and advanced risk management practices. Furthermore, the partnership will facilitate the exchange of insights on investment platforms and infrastructure.

The strategic deal expands the existing relationship beyond specific asset classes, now including equities, fixed income investments, multi-asset strategies, and alternative investments. This formalizes a broad and encompassing strategic alliance between the two institutions.

This agreement follows a similar partnership established earlier this month with Allianz Global Investors, demonstrating the NPS’s commitment to strengthening its global investment capabilities and expanding its international investment network.

BlackRock, established in 1988, reported approximately $14 trillion in assets under management (AUM) as of the end of 2025. The firm operates over 38 offices globally, employing over 20,000 investment professionals.

The official signing ceremony was attended by key figures from both organizations, including NPS Chairman Kim Sung-joo, BlackRock President and co-founder Robert S. Kapito, and Hiro Shimizu, BlackRock’s vice chairperson for the Asia-Pacific region. Approximately 10 officials participated in the event.

Chairman Kim emphasized that the agreement marks the beginning of a significant strategic partnership designed to deepen the exchange of investment expertise between the NPS and BlackRock. President Kapito expressed his anticipation for a closer collaboration, supporting the NPS in achieving its long-term investment objectives.

In conjunction with the signing, BlackRock inaugurated a new office in Jeonju’s Manseong-dong. This office will serve as a central hub for collaborative activities, including training programs and ongoing strategic dialogue between the two organizations.
