SK hynix has dethroned Samsung Electronics to become the most desirable employer among South Korean job seekers, reflecting the increasing allure of semiconductor companies driven by the global artificial intelligence boom.
A survey released by the job platform Saramin on Monday revealed that 20 percent of the 2,304 participants chose SK hynix as their top choice for employment.
This marks the first time the memory chip manufacturer has surpassed Samsung Electronics, which had consistently held the top position since the survey’s inception, according to Saramin.
Samsung Electronics secured second place with 18.9 percent, highlighting the significant presence of semiconductor firms in the rankings. This trend underscores how the rapid growth of the global AI market is boosting the industry’s appeal to prospective employees.
Hyundai Motor Company ranked third with 7.9 percent, followed by tech platform operator Naver at 4 percent and the construction and trading company Samsung C&T at 3 percent.
Completing the top 10 are Hanwha Aerospace, Ottogi, Kakao, Samsung Biologics, and LG Electronics.
The reasons for selecting preferred employers varied. Respondents cited competitive salaries as the primary factor for choosing SK hynix, Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor, and Samsung C&T.
Those who favored Samsung Biologics, Hanwha Aerospace, and Naver emphasized the companies’ vision and potential for growth as the key attractants.
Many of the top-ranked companies are currently engaged in open recruitment for entry-level positions. SK hynix is accepting applications until March 23rd, while Samsung affiliates are receiving submissions through March 17th. Hanwha Aerospace also announced a new recruitment drive on Friday.
