Autonomous A2Z announced on Thursday the successful completion of a 40.5 billion won ($27.4 million) pre-IPO funding round. This latest investment brings their total funding to 122.5 billion won, marking the largest amount raised by any self-driving startup in South Korea.
This significant funding milestone precedes the company’s anticipated initial public offering (IPO) on the Kosdaq, South Korea’s technology-focused stock market, later this year. The capital will fuel the expansion of autonomous mobility projects both domestically and internationally. A key focus will be on investing in vital infrastructure and attracting top talent to accelerate the development of comprehensive, AI-powered autonomous driving technology.
Autonomous A2Z is gearing up to participate in a major autonomous driving pilot program spearheaded by the South Korean Ministry of Transport. A portion of the newly secured funds will be dedicated to acquiring essential components, including controllers, sensors, and other necessary vehicle parts, crucial for rigorous testing and widespread deployment.
The company is also strategically expanding its reach beyond South Korea. In Singapore, Autonomous A2Z operates an autonomous shuttle service in partnership with the ride-hailing giant Grab. Furthermore, they have implemented their innovative LiDAR Infrastructure System within Singapore’s existing transportation network. The company is actively pursuing additional projects in the United Arab Emirates and has initiated a robotaxi pilot program in Japan.
Autonomous A2Z is committed to accelerating the advancement of its hybrid autonomous driving system. This system uniquely blends rule-based algorithms with advanced AI-driven decision-making capabilities. By harnessing real-world driving data to continuously improve both safety and performance, the company aims to expedite the commercialization of Level 4 fully driverless vehicles.
Han Ji-hyeong, Co-founder and CEO of Autonomous A2Z, emphasized the company’s strategic vision, stating, “We will solidify the foundation for the commercialization of autonomous driving and aggressively pursue our IPO plans. Through the mass production of Level 4 autonomous vehicles and the cultivation of a global data ecosystem, we are determined to expand the influence of Korean autonomous driving technology on a global scale.”
