Seoul shares experienced a significant drop at the opening bell on Wednesday, following a 7% plunge the previous session. This downturn is attributed to growing anxieties surrounding US-led air strikes in the Middle East, specifically concerns regarding escalating tensions with Iran.
Opening 3.44% in the red, the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) stood at 5,579.06 at 9:12 a.m. KST, reflecting a decrease of 212.85 points, or 3.67 percent.
The KOSPI previously plummeted 7.24% to close at 5,791.91, with investor sentiment heavily impacted by heightened geopolitical risks stemming from the ongoing Middle East conflict.
