A recent report indicates that nearly 70% of investment-related Artificial Intelligence (AI) patent applications in South Korea originate from non-listed companies and startups. This highlights the significant role of venture firms in driving the AI transformation within the finance industry.
The Korea Capital Market Institute’s report revealed that 67% of financial investment AI patent applications were filed by local Software as a Service (SaaS) companies.
The study further showed that 76% of these patents are intended for Business-to-Business (B2B) sales, while only 14% target individual consumers.
Many of the patent applications focused on AI designed for automating standardized financial tasks, including entrusted financial product trading, monitoring for unusual trading patterns, and stock price analysis.
The report also notes limited AI patent activity in areas requiring non-public information and relying on human relationships, such as deal sourcing, and those associated with substantial financial risk.
