Mark Departs SM Entertainment After 10 Years with NCT

In a significant announcement, SM Entertainment has confirmed the departure of beloved artist Mark from the K-pop group NCT, effective next Wednesday. The agency stated this decision followed “sufficient and deep discussions with Mark for a long time,” paving the way for his new artistic journey.

Mark, who debuted in 2016 as a foundational member of NCT, has been a vibrant force across the group’s popular sub-units, including NCT 127 and NCT Dream. His versatility and talent further shone last April with the release of his solo album, “The Firstfruit,” marking his official foray as a solo artist.

“Mark has been a remarkable artist over the last 10 years, demonstrating outstanding abilities both as a group member and as a solo artist,” SM Entertainment shared. The company extended its heartfelt wishes for the artist’s continued success and well-being in his upcoming endeavors.

Later the same day, Mark personally addressed fans through a handwritten letter posted on Instagram. In what would be his final message as an NCT member, he expressed deep gratitude to his fans and fellow group members.

“I know this may feel sudden to everyone,” he wrote, reflecting on his time with NCT as some of the best experiences of his life. Mark revealed his decision stemmed from a long-cherished dream: to travel the world, perform music with his acoustic guitar, and dedicate time to songwriting.

He conveyed profound thanks to the NCT members, who he noted supported his decision “wholeheartedly,” adding that he felt “tearfully grateful and forever sorry” to them for their unwavering camaraderie.

Addressing his dedicated fanbase, Mark penned, “You have made me the happiest person for the past 10 years. Because of you, I was able to dream bigger as a singer and make that dream come true.”

Concluding his heartfelt letter, Mark pledged his eternal gratitude to “SM, the NCT members and NCTzens,” using the affectionate name for the band’s global fan base. He promised to dedicate himself fully, aiming to return in the future as “a better version of Mark,” ready to share his evolved artistry with the world.
