Bong Joon-ho's Animation Debut: 'Ally'

CJ ENM, a leading entertainment company, has proudly announced its significant investment in and upcoming distribution of the highly anticipated animated film, “Ally.” This ambitious project is a collaborative effort, bringing together CJ ENM with Penture Invest and the renowned French film company, Pathe Films. While the official release date for Bong Joon-ho’s animated film “Ally” is yet to be revealed, excitement is already building for this unique cinematic experience.

This captivating animated feature immerses audiences in the extraordinary world of deepwater creatures, who harbor a profound fascination with humans and their bustling lives above the ocean’s surface. At the heart of the enthralling plot is Ally, a spirited deepwater octopus. Her unexpected journey begins after a dramatic plane crash sends wreckage sinking into the ocean depths, prompting Ally and her friends to embark on an unforgettable adventure into the unknown.

The screenplay for “Ally” boasts the creative genius of Jason Yu, celebrated director of the critically acclaimed 2023 mystery horror “Sleep.” Yu’s involvement promises a compelling and masterfully crafted narrative for the animated film.

Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho has been meticulously developing this groundbreaking animated film, “Ally,” since 2018. Production for Bong Joon-ho’s latest endeavor is progressing steadily, with completion expected in the first half of next year.

Following his highly anticipated 2025 sci-fi movie, “Mickey 17,” “Ally” will represent Bong Joon-ho’s next significant cinematic release, further showcasing his unparalleled talent and genre-spanning vision.
