Episodes featuring translator Hwang Seok-hee on TvN’s “You Quiz on the Block” and MBC’s “Point of Omniscient Interfere” have been removed from streaming services Tving and Wavve. Highlight clips have also been taken down.
Leading online bookstores have stopped selling Hwang Seok-hee’s published essays.
These actions come after a Tuesday news report detailed Hwang Seok-hee’s past convictions, revealing he received suspended sentences in two separate sex offense cases.
Hwang Seok-hee addressed the report on Instagram, stating he is consulting with his lawyer and plans to pursue legal action against any false or unverified information.
Requests for comment from Hwang Seok-hee went unanswered as of Tuesday evening.
Hwang Seok-hee gained recognition for his translation work on the 2016 film “Deadpool.” He has since translated numerous high-profile Hollywood films, including the recent sci-fi title “Project Hail Mary.”
He is reportedly involved in the translation of the upcoming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” scheduled for release in July. Sony Pictures Korea, the film’s distributor, has not yet released a statement regarding his involvement.
