Jipyeong Brewery announced Thursday the North American launch of two new flavored makgeollis – Jipyeong Matcha and Jipyeong Lychee – preceding their debut in Korea. This strategic move aims to further globalize the popularity of Korean rice wine.
As Korean cuisine continues to surge in global popularity, traditional Korean alcoholic beverages are experiencing heightened interest. Makgeolli, known for its smooth texture and relatively low alcohol content, is increasingly recognized internationally as a versatile and enjoyable complement to various cuisines.
To cater to evolving global flavor preferences, Jipyeong Brewery has introduced Matcha and Lychee variations, leveraging the broad international familiarity with these ingredients in the beverage market. The goal is to make makgeolli more approachable and appealing to a wider global audience.
“Jipyeong Matcha” masterfully combines high-quality Boseong matcha with the natural sweetness of makgeolli, creating a harmonious and balanced flavor profile with a subtly bitter undertone and a smooth, silky finish.
“Jipyeong Lychee” showcases the fruit’s distinctively fresh, sweet, and delicately floral notes, resulting in a lighter and more refreshing drinking experience.
Both the Matcha and Lychee makgeollis boast an alcohol content of 5.6 percent, aligning with the growing global demand for lighter beverages. They are strategically positioned as easy-to-enjoy drinks or versatile bases for creating innovative cocktails.
The brewery has also extended the shelf life of these products to one year, utilizing their fermentation expertise to preserve optimal flavor and texture throughout long-distance transportation. This extended shelf life is a crucial factor for successful overseas market expansion.
Jipyeong Brewery plans to support the launch with engaging pairing suggestions and interactive sampling events to effectively raise global awareness and drive consumer interest.
“Through the introduction of these uniquely flavored makgeollis, we aspire to introduce the rich and diverse world of Korean alcohol to a greater number of consumers worldwide,” stated a representative from the company.
