Starbucks Korea announced on Tuesday that its total sales of decaffeinated coffee have exceeded 200 million cups as of February 2026.
This milestone has been reached approximately 8.5 years after the introduction of decaffeinated options in August 2017, and includes both half-caffeinated and fully decaffeinated beverages.
The increasing popularity of decaf coffee is evident in consumer behavior. In the past year, Starbucks sold over 45 million cups of decaffeinated coffee, representing a 39 percent increase compared to the previous year. This is the first time annual decaf sales have surpassed the 40 million cup mark.
This trend has continued into 2026, with decaf sales in January and February showing a 23 percent increase year-over-year. During this period, decaffeinated options constituted 14 percent of total Americano sales.
Consumers in their 20s and 30s are the primary drivers behind this growing demand. According to data from Starbucks Rewards members, the 20-39 age demographic accounts for 60 percent of all decaf consumption, while those in their 40s and 50s make up an additional 35 percent.
“Our decaffeinated options allow customers to enjoy their favorite Starbucks beverages anytime, anywhere,” stated Choi Hyun-jung, Chief Food Beverage Department Officer at Starbucks Korea.
“In response to the increasing demand for decaffeinated beverages, we will further enhance our selection of caffeine-free teas and fruit drinks.”
