Genesis BBQ, a leading Korean fried chicken franchise, has officially launched its first South American location with the opening of BBQ Provenza in Medellin, Colombia. This marks a significant milestone in the brand’s strategic expansion throughout the Americas.
The new BBQ restaurant is strategically situated at the entrance of Provenza, in the vibrant El Poblado district of Medellin. This area, recognized as one of the “coolest streets in the world” by Time Out, is a popular destination for dining and tourism, boasting a variety of upscale restaurants, trendy cafes, rooftop bars, and unique boutique shops.
BBQ Provenza operates under the franchise’s premium, cafe-style casual dining concept, carefully adapted to cater to the preferences of local Colombian consumers. The menu highlights BBQ’s renowned golden fried chicken, complemented by flavorful rice bowls, fresh salad bowls, and the innovative “UFO chicken” – a shareable platter featuring a delectable cheese fondue.
As part of its localization strategy, Genesis BBQ intends to introduce new platter dishes and grilled chicken variations tailored to the South American palate. This approach aims to enhance the appeal and competitiveness of Korean fried chicken within the South American market.
“Leveraging our successful experiences in North and Central America, as well as the Caribbean, we are excited to inaugurate our first South American store in a prime commercial area of Medellin,” stated a Genesis BBQ official.
“Beginning with Colombia, our plans include further expansion into key markets such as Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina, with the goal of strengthening the presence of Korean chicken across the entire Americas region.”
