Seoul’s Jongno and Jung wards will be under heightened security from midnight Wednesday to midnight Saturday, with the government raising the alert level to “caution” on a four-tier scale, according to the Office for Government Policy Coordination.
This increased security is in anticipation of the BTS concert scheduled for Saturday at Gwanghwamun Square in Jongno, an event expected to attract hundreds of thousands of fans and visitors from across the globe.
The alert level adjustment follows Prime Minister Kim Min-seok’s directives to implement comprehensive safety protocols, acknowledging potential terror threats amidst the current global security climate, the government stated.
To ensure public safety, relevant agencies will enhance patrols at critical locations and infrastructure, and bolster joint emergency response systems.
