LG CEO Visits AgiBot, China: Humanoid Robot Development
LG Electronics CEO Lyu Jae-cheol speaks at the LG World Premiere 2026 event at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on Jan. 5, ahead of CES 2026.

LG Electronics CEO Lyu Jae-cheol’s recent visit to AgiBot, a leading Chinese humanoid robot manufacturer, underscores the company’s increasing focus on robotics and artificial intelligence as crucial elements of its future growth strategy. The three-day trip to Shanghai highlights LG’s commitment to expanding its presence in the robotics sector.

Industry sources revealed that Lyu toured AgiBot’s facilities starting Wednesday, engaging in discussions with the company’s executives regarding trends in humanoid robotics and potential avenues for deeper collaboration. AgiBot is recognized as a top global humanoid robot producer based on shipment volume, and is known for its innovative “data learning farms” which collect and analyze robot motion data to improve AI performance.

LG Electronics initially invested in AgiBot in August of last year, establishing a foundation for technical cooperation. The recent visit is reported to have concentrated on AgiBot’s mass production capabilities, data training infrastructure, and supply chain management for essential components, particularly actuators.

Currently, LG’s robotics initiatives are primarily focused on its CLOiD home robot, along with the internal development of vital components such as actuators. In investor documentation preceding the recent shareholders’ meeting, LG emphasized home robotics and other emerging ventures as key drivers of growth, complementing its established home appliance division.

Industry analysts interpret Lyu’s visit as a proactive effort in technology scouting, reflecting his consistent assertion that large-scale humanoid robotics development necessitates extensive data acquisition and ongoing investment. During CES 2026 in January, he communicated to reporters LG’s plans to progress beyond laboratory settings and initiate real-world field tests of CLOiD “as early as next year.”

The Shanghai trip extended beyond robotics. Lyu also made an appearance at AWE 2026, China’s premier consumer electronics exhibition, and engaged in meetings with local appliance distributors. LG showcased its AI-enhanced home technologies at AWE, reinforcing its position as the world’s leading home appliance brand in a market where such recognition holds substantial competitive significance.
