BTS is set to perform at Gwanghwamun Square at 8 p.m. this Saturday in celebration of their new album, “Arirang.” The free concert is anticipated to draw a massive crowd, with estimates suggesting up to 260,000 attendees, including 22,000 ticket holders.

Due to anticipated overcrowding, several businesses near Gwanghwamun Square are planning to close early or remain closed all day Saturday, according to industry reports.

CJ Olive Young Corp., a leading health and beauty retailer, will temporarily close four of its Olive Young stores in the vicinity of Gwanghwamun Square on Saturday. Three other Olive Young locations in the area will shorten their operating hours, closing at 6 p.m. instead of their usual 9 p.m. or 10:30 p.m.

Starbucks cafes located near Gwanghwamun Square will also be closed on Saturday, including the two branches situated inside the KT Gwanghwamun West building, which will remain closed for the entire day.

Major department stores in Myeongdong, a popular shopping destination in Seoul for both locals and international tourists, are implementing additional safety measures in anticipation of the weekend surge in visitors.

Shinsegae Department Store, which recently launched a dedicated BTS pop-up store, is collaborating with local police and authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of shoppers.

Lotte Department Store, located just a few blocks from Shinsegae in Myeongdong, will deploy extra security personnel on Saturday to manage the expected crowds.

Four Seasons Hotel, conveniently located near Gwanghwamun Square, will restrict access to the hotel by keeping only one of its three entrances open starting at noon on Saturday to control the flow of people. Its restaurants will be accessible only to hotel guests or those with prior reservations. The hotel will also increase its security presence.

Convenience stores in the Gwanghwamun Square area are preparing for a significant increase in customers by stocking up on essential items such as bottled water, snacks, alcoholic beverages, and mobile phone chargers. Many will also have bilingual cashiers available to assist international visitors.

In addition to business preparations, police and the Seoul Metropolitan Government have identified 31 buildings surrounding Gwanghwamun Square that require heightened monitoring during the concert. Authorities have met with building managers to discuss safety protocols, including limiting building access and securing rooftop areas.

Concerns have been raised by police and the city government that BTS fans without tickets might attempt to access rooftops of nearby buildings to view the concert, potentially creating hazardous situations.
