As of 9 a.m. Sunday, “The King’s Warden” had surpassed 8 million viewers since its release on February 4th, according to distributor Showbox.
Box office numbers revealed that nearly 655,000 moviegoers watched the film on Saturday alone, the kickoff to the three-day weekend including the March 1st Independence Movement Day. This performance makes it likely the film will reach 9 million admissions by the end of the holiday.
“The King’s Warden,” directed by Jang Hang-jun (known for “Break Out” (2002) and “Rebound” (2023)), presents a fictionalized take on historical events. The story centers on the unlikely bond between village chief Eom Heung-do (Yoo Hai-jin) and the young, exiled King Danjong (Park Ji-hoon) during the king’s time in the village.
