Celebrating 140 years of diplomatic ties, South Korea and France are set to host a year-long celebration under the theme of “Creativity, Opportunity, and Solidarity.” The program, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will feature a diverse array of exhibitions, performances, and events showcasing the rich heritage and dynamic future of Korean culture.
The visual arts scene will be vibrant, with leading French cultural institutions hosting exhibitions by prominent Korean artists. “Colors of Korea,” a modern and digital art exhibition, has already launched at the Korean Cultural Center in France in October. In Spring, the Fondation Fiminco will present a solo exhibition of media artist Kang Yi-yun alongside a group exhibition highlighting emerging young talents.
The prestigious National Museum of Asian Arts – Guimet in Paris will present several high-profile exhibitions dedicated to Korean art and culture. Highlights include “The Secret of Korean Beauty: From Joseon to K-Beauty” (March–July), “Silla: Gold and Sacredness” (May–August), and “Illusion of Knowledge: The Trompe-loeil Art of Korean Painting” (September 2026–January 2027).
A rich program of performing arts exchanges is also planned.
On May 23rd, Korean cultural performances will animate major museums and galleries across Paris as part of the European Night of Museums. In July, the renowned Avignon Festival will feature Korean as its official guest language, presenting leading theater and dance productions, complemented by literary and culinary events.
October will see the Chatelet Theater host a dynamic B-boying competition pitting top Korean street dance crews against their French counterparts.
Korea will also be the guest country at the 2026 Series Mania, an international TV series festival, in March. Additionally, a promotional booth for Korean films will be featured at the Cannes Film Market in May. Further events include the “Concept Korea” fashion showcase during Paris Fashion Week in both March and September, a Korea–France tourism B2B event in June, and a bilateral publishing exchange program throughout the year.
“These anniversary events present a significant opportunity to deepen mutual understanding and friendship between our nations,” stated a ministry official. “We hope this celebration will broaden the appeal of K-culture in France and further strengthen the cultural bonds between our two countries.”
