SEOUL, Feb. 4 (Yonhap) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced comprehensive crowd control and anti-price gouging measures to ensure the safety and well-being of attendees expected at the highly anticipated BTS comeback show in Gwanghwamun Square next month. This initiative aims to effectively manage the large crowds and prevent unfair pricing practices targeting fans and tourists.
During a meeting led by Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, city officials discussed detailed preparations for the BTS concert scheduled to take place at Gwanghwamun Square on March 21. The focus was on ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Anticipating tens of thousands of fans converging on Gwanghwamun Square and its surrounding areas, the Seoul government plans to implement a strategic venue division. Organizers will be required to deploy adequate safety personnel both within and around the concert site to manage crowd flow and maintain order.
The city’s disaster and safety situation room will be fully operational, utilizing real-time data and surveillance cameras to closely monitor crowd density and movement. This monitoring will enable officials to guide attendees into and out of the venue in a controlled, sequential manner, minimizing congestion before and after the BTS performance.
To ensure immediate response to any emergencies, firefighters and medical personnel will be stationed on-site. Traffic flow will also be managed by strategically rerouting bus and subway services to accommodate the increased pedestrian traffic. These measures are designed to mitigate potential disruptions and ensure smooth transportation.
Addressing concerns about potential price gouging, the city government is collaborating with district offices to conduct thorough inspections of accommodation businesses. These inspections will verify that businesses are transparently displaying their prices and adhering to relevant regulations. Undercover inspectors will also be deployed to monitor pricing practices at traditional markets and other tourist attractions, protecting foreign tourists from being overcharged.
Beyond the BTS concert itself, the city government plans to host a variety of supplementary events to enhance the overall experience for visitors. These events aim to create a vibrant atmosphere and offer diverse entertainment options.
Plans are underway to organize street performances, dance festivals, and other engaging activities near Dongdaemun Design Plaza, Seoul Plaza, and along the Han River. These events will provide additional attractions for fans and tourists alike, complementing the main concert event.
