South Korean K-pop Album Exports Reach Record High of $257.48 Million in First Half

K-pop album exports have surged to an impressive US$257.48 million during the January-June period, marking a phenomenal 125 percent increase year-over-year. This remarkable growth in global K-pop sales underscores the genre’s escalating international demand, as reported by the Korea Customs Service’s import and export trade statistics.

Leading this global surge, the United States emerged as the top importer of K-pop albums, with imports reaching $74.12 million. Close behind were China, securing $61.18 million in album sales, and Japan, with significant K-pop album imports totaling $45.61 million, showcasing the genre’s strong presence across major international music markets.

The robust demand for K-pop extended across Europe and Asia, with Germany, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Britain, France, and Poland completing the list of the top ten importing nations.

Driving much of this export success were powerhouse groups like BTS. The global sensation released their highly anticipated first new album in nearly four years this March, with both the album and its lead single soaring to the top of Billboard’s prestigious main charts, further fueling K-pop’s international dominance.

Adding to the genre’s stellar performance, BLACKPINK also made a significant impact with their third mini album, “Deadline,” released in February. This album impressively sold nearly 2 million copies by June, cementing BLACKPINK’s status as a top-selling K-pop act and contributing substantially to the overall album export figures.
