'Hope' Sees Strong South Korea Opening, Exceeds 330,000 Ticket Sales

The highly anticipated **Korean sci-fi epic, “Hope,”** has made a phenomenal debut at the box office, securing the No. 1 spot. On its opening Wednesday, the film attracted an impressive 333,918 moviegoers, according to data from the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), dominating 81.3 percent of total box-office sales.

Fresh from its competition at this year’s prestigious **Cannes Film Festival**, “Hope” plunges audiences into a gripping narrative. Set in the remote coastal town of Hopo, the story follows dedicated police officers and local villagers whose lives are dramatically upended after encountering powerful and mysterious extraterrestrial beings, spiraling them into a series of unforeseen events.

Marking the much-anticipated return of acclaimed director **Na Hong-jin**, a decade after his critically lauded “The Wailing” (2016), this cinematic masterpiece features a stellar, international cast. Headlining the ensemble are Korean stars **Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, and Jung Ho-yeon**, alongside acclaimed Hollywood actors **Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander**, promising a truly global cinematic experience.

The **record-setting Korean film** has already achieved significant international success, with pre-sales secured in approximately 200 territories worldwide – an unprecedented feat for a Korean production. Domestically, the sci-fi epic continued its strong momentum, accounting for 63.1 percent of all advance ticket sales by Thursday morning, indicating that some 550,000 eager moviegoers were ready to experience “Hope,” based on KOFIC data.
