The highly anticipated animated film, “Toy Story 5,” has captured the leading position at the Korean box office, attracting a remarkable 713,071 admissions over the recent weekend. This strong performance elevates its total cumulative admissions to 872,553 as of Sunday. The data, compiled by the Korean Film Council, highlights the film’s immediate success and its rapid approach towards the significant one-million admissions milestone, cementing its status as a major cinematic hit.
Securing the No. 2 spot, director Yeon Sang-ho’s latest addition to his acclaimed zombie thriller series, “Colony,” continued its impressive run. The film drew 188,674 admissions over the weekend, contributing to its outstanding total of 5,527,525 admissions. Its enduring popularity underscores the consistent appeal of Yeon Sang-ho’s unique vision within the genre.
In another notable achievement for Korean cinema, “Wild Sing,” starring the renowned actor Gang Dong-won, successfully crossed the 1-million admissions threshold. The film added 133,556 admissions over the weekend, landing at No. 3 and celebrating a significant milestone in its theatrical release.
While foreign films largely dominated the top positions on the weekend box-office chart, the Korean-Japanese supernatural horror film “The Shrine” made a compelling debut. It entered the rankings at No. 5, standing out as a strong local contender in an otherwise internationally driven top 10 list, according to the latest figures.
