K-pop supergroup BTS is set to electrify Busan as they kick off the “Arirang” world tour’s highly anticipated leg this Friday. The global phenomenon makes its grand return to the southern South Korean port city, much to the excitement of its devoted global fan base, ARMY.
These landmark performances, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, will take place at the iconic Busan Asiad Main Stadium. Both shows have completely sold out, demonstrating immense demand and are expected to attract a combined audience of approximately 110,000 fans to the stadium.
The “Arirang” world tour, a global spectacle, first launched in April at Goyang Stadium, northwest of Seoul, with three sold-out shows. Since then, the K-pop septet has captivated audiences in major international cities, including Tokyo, Tampa, El Paso, Mexico City, Stanford, and Las Vegas. The first leg of their North American tour alone saw BTS draw an astounding 840,000 fans across 15 electrifying performances.
This highly anticipated return marks BTS’ first performance in Busan in over three years. Their last visit was for the “Yet to Come in Busan” concert in October 2022, a significant event held in support of the city’s bid to host the prestigious 2030 World Expo.
The upcoming Busan concerts hold even deeper significance for ARMY, as the group reunites with fans at the very venue where they last performed before embarking on their hiatus for the members’ mandatory military service. This emotional reunion is highly anticipated by fans worldwide.
Adding to the excitement, the second night of the Busan concerts will serendipitously coincide with the band’s 13th debut anniversary – a momentous occasion for BTS and ARMY alike. To share this celebration globally, the performance will be broadcast via live viewing in approximately 3,800 movie theaters across over 80 countries. In South Korea, fans can experience the magic at major multiplex chains such as CGV, Lotte Cinema, and Megabox.
Beyond the exhilarating stadium shows, BTS is also launching a comprehensive cultural project, “BTS The City Arirang Busan,” running through June 21st. This immersive experience transforms the entire city of Busan into a BTS-themed celebration, offering fans and visitors a diverse range of engaging events. Highlights include a stunning drone lighting show illuminating the iconic Gwangan Bridge and a captivating lighting display on the grand roof of the Busan Cinema Center.
The “Arirang” world tour is set to continue its monumental run until March next year, encompassing an incredible 86 shows across 34 cities worldwide. Following the highly successful Busan concerts, BTS will next bring their dynamic performances to Madrid on June 26–27, continuing their global journey. (Yonhap)
