South Korea Participates in G7 Digital Ministers Meeting in Paris

South Korea’s Second Vice Minister of Science, Ryu Je-myung, recently highlighted the nation’s advanced artificial intelligence (AI) policies at the prestigious G7 Digital Ministers Meeting in Paris. The Ministry of Science and ICT confirmed that South Korea was invited to this significant international forum for the second consecutive year, underscoring its growing influence in global digital governance.

During the meeting, held in Paris on Friday (local time), Vice Minister Ryu detailed South Korea’s progressive AI policy framework, including the landmark AI Basic Act. This critical legislation, which came into effect earlier this year, aims to establish a robust national governance system for cutting-edge AI technologies, ensuring responsible and innovative development.

Beyond the G7 discussions, Ryu Je-myung engaged in strategic bilateral meetings with key leaders from major economies such as Japan and the United States. These discussions focused on fostering deeper cooperation in critical technology and digital sectors, reinforcing South Korea’s commitment to international collaboration.

Further demonstrating this commitment, Vice Minister Ryu is slated to visit Mistral AI, a leading French AI company, following the G7 event. A meeting with its CEO, Arthur Mensch, is planned to explore avenues for bilateral cooperation across various AI industries, facilitate talent exchange programs, and collaboratively develop effective AI governance standards.
