Hanwha Aerospace Appoints Kim Dong-hyun to Lead Australian Defense Expansion and Production

Hanwha Aerospace today announced the appointment of Kim Dong-hyun, currently the head of its land systems business division, as the new chief of its Australian subsidiary. This strategic move is set to significantly accelerate the company’s local defense production capabilities and expand its vital supply chain network within Australia.

Kim Dong-hyun will concurrently retain his leadership role within the land systems business division while taking the helm of the Australian operations. His responsibilities in Australia will encompass overseeing operations at the advanced Hanwha Armoured Vehicle Centre of Excellence (H-ACE) in Geelong, Victoria, which has recently begun full-scale mass production. A key focus for Kim will also be to drive efforts in strengthening Hanwha’s comprehensive defense supply chain ecosystem across the country.

With a distinguished career spanning over 20 years at Hanwha Aerospace, Kim Dong-hyun brings extensive experience, having previously led the company’s research institute, production operations, and various business divisions. He is recognized for playing a pivotal role in expanding the scale of Hanwha’s land systems business more than tenfold, showcasing his profound impact and strategic vision.

This critical appointment underscores Hanwha Aerospace’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the stable and efficient execution of its major Australian defense projects. These include the crucial mass production of the AS9 Huntsman self-propelled howitzer and the formidable AS21 Redback infantry fighting vehicle, both integral to Australia’s sovereign defense capabilities.

A company official highlighted Hanwha’s future strategy, stating, “We are dedicated to fortifying practical research and development capabilities in Australia, while fully leveraging H-ACE as a premier manufacturing and innovation hub. This move reinforces our long-term strategic partnership and investment in the Australian defense industry.”
