South Korea’s Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan recently engaged in discussions with his Kyrgyz counterpart to explore avenues for expanding bilateral trade and strengthening critical minerals cooperation between the two nations, his office confirmed Thursday.
During their pivotal meeting in Seoul, Minister Kim Jung-kwan and Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Economy and Commerce, Bakyt Sydykov, underscored the mutual commitment to boost bilateral trade by actively diversifying trade items. This commitment builds on a strong foundation, as the two countries recorded a historical high of $3.5 billion in trade last year, a significant milestone since establishing diplomatic ties in 1992.
Further emphasizing strategic collaboration, both ministers solidified plans to deepen cooperation in critical minerals, leveraging Kyrgyzstan’s abundant resources, particularly antimony and tungsten. This initiative, as reported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, aims to enhance resource security and foster economic synergy between South Korea and the Central Asian republic.
