Merck Life Science and GC Biopharma have formally entered a strategic partnership, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at significantly broadening their collaboration in biopharmaceutical development, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) production processes, and advanced technical cooperation. This landmark agreement was announced by both companies on Thursday.
The agreement, formalized in Seoul on Wednesday, outlines a commitment from both organizations to bolster supply stability and enhance manufacturing competitiveness specifically for GC Biopharma’s critical therapeutic products. This will be achieved through the establishment of a more robust and responsive production and supply chain system.
As part of this comprehensive partnership, Merck Life Science has committed to actively support the consistent supply of essential critical raw materials vital for GC Biopharma’s flagship products, notably including treatments like Alyglo and Hunterase.
Further cementing their collaboration, the initiative also encompasses plans to develop a seamless, end-to-end supply system. This integrated system will span everything from strategic raw material sourcing and comprehensive process support to precise production planning. Merck further affirmed its dedication by pledging to prioritize the allocation of high-quality batches, thereby ensuring an uninterrupted and reliable supply of critical treatments to patients.
Beyond supply chain enhancements, both companies have also mutually agreed to significantly expand their technical cooperation. This will involve regular committee meetings, facilitated knowledge sharing of advanced manufacturing technologies, and the active exploration of joint research and development (R&D) opportunities to foster innovation.
Merck Life Science plans to strategically leverage its extensive global life science expertise and cutting-edge resources. This strategic input aims to substantially strengthen GC Biopharma’s manufacturing capabilities and ensure robust support for the consistent supply of essential and life-saving therapies.
For GC Biopharma, this pivotal collaboration is expected to significantly reinforce its foundational manufacturing and supply infrastructure, particularly for crucial rare disease treatments. Concurrently, it will facilitate the improvement of stringent quality standards and effectively minimize potential supply-chain risks, ultimately benefiting patients worldwide.
