LG Uplus has officially announced a strategic agreement with Malaysian telecommunications giant Maxis to commercially launch its innovative AI call assistant, ixi-O, in Malaysia. This significant partnership marks the inaugural overseas rollout under LG Uplus’s ambitious global AI expansion strategy, first unveiled at MWC 2026.
Maxis, recognized as one of Malaysia’s premier telecommunications providers, boasts a robust nationwide network (4G and 5G) serving over 10 million mobile subscribers, making it an ideal partner for LG Uplus’s global initiatives.
The commercialization plans for ixi-O were solidified during a key meeting between LG Uplus CEO Hong Beom-sik and Maxis CEO Goh Seow Eng, alongside other senior executives, held at Maxis headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.
Designed specifically for international telecom markets, ixi-O is an advanced AI-based call assistant platform meticulously customized to integrate seamlessly with diverse local carrier environments. LG Uplus anticipates the service will be available to Malaysian users within the current year.
This AI-powered calling solution will deliver features uniquely optimized for the Malaysian market. Its sophisticated on-device AI engine leverages multilingual language processing to accurately support locally prevalent English expressions, ensuring a highly intuitive and effective user experience.
Beyond the ixi-O launch, both LG Uplus and Maxis are actively exploring broader strategic collaborations, including the development of AI-powered smart home services and comprehensive business-to-business (B2B) solutions.
This landmark agreement is a direct and tangible outcome of LG Uplus’s global AI software strategy, which CEO Hong Beom-sik articulated at MWC 2026, detailing the company’s vision to transform into a leading global AI software provider.
“We are diligently tailoring ixi-O to perfectly fit Malaysia’s unique communications environment and are committed to continuous expansion within the rapidly growing global software-as-a-service (SaaS) market,” stated LG Uplus CEO Hong Beom-sik.
Maxis CEO Goh Seow Eng commented on the collaboration, saying, “Ixi-O represents a crucial service for significantly enhancing customer value. LG Uplus has truly demonstrated strong security and cutting-edge on-device AI technologies. We eagerly anticipate fostering broader business cooperation following the successful establishment of this agreement.”
