Leading Korean fried chicken franchise operator, Genesis BBQ, has officially announced its grand debut in Central Asia with the opening of its first store in Almaty, Kazakhstan. This strategic expansion marks a significant milestone for the global brand.
The newly launched Genesis BBQ restaurant is strategically situated within the bustling food court of MEGA Alma-Ata, one of Central Asia’s largest multi-complex shopping malls, located in the southern part of the vibrant city. This premier retail destination attracts an impressive 10 million visitors annually, ensuring high foot traffic for the new eatery.
Designed as a quick-service restaurant (QSR), the Almaty store is set to delight local food enthusiasts with BBQ’s signature offerings. The menu features the renowned golden fried chicken, alongside popular chicken burgers, traditional Korean tteokbokki, and the innovative “UFO chicken,” a unique chicken platter served with a rich cheddar cheese fondue.
Almaty, recognized as Kazakhstan’s largest city and its virtual economic hub, boasts a strong consumer spending power. Its well-developed food service and distribution industries make it an prime target for international brands seeking successful entry into the Kazakhstani market. This makes it an ideal location for Genesis BBQ’s Central Asian launch.
The city’s dynamic blend of finance, trade, logistics, tourism, and leisure sectors contributes to consistently high consumer activity throughout both lunch and dinner hours. Furthermore, Almaty’s proximity to major tourist attractions like the Medeu skating rink, Shymbulak ski resort, and the picturesque Big Almaty Lake ensures a stable and robust demand for diverse dining options.
Almaty is also home to a significant population of young consumers and international students, with prestigious institutions such as Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, KIMEP University, and Satbayev University located nearby, providing a broad and engaged customer base for BBQ Chicken.
Leveraging this strategic new location, Genesis BBQ plans to rapidly accelerate its expansion across Kazakhstan, with an ambitious goal of opening 100 new outlets within the year. The brand aims to establish 20 stores in key business districts during the first half of the year, followed by an expansion into the capital city of Astana in the third quarter.
“Our successful entry into Kazakhstan was significantly bolstered by our partnership with KOTRA. We are committed to continuing our strategic expansion into key cities, thereby strengthening our prominent position within the thriving Central Asian market,” stated an official from Genesis BBQ.
