HD Hyundai Electric announced a significant milestone, securing a 173 billion won ($119 million) contract for the supply of 765-kilovolt ultra-high-voltage transformers and reactors. This major deal was unveiled alongside the company’s comprehensive power solutions portfolio at the prestigious IEEE PES T&D Conference & Exposition 2026.

This strategic agreement positions HD Hyundai Electric to play a crucial role in the 765kV backbone project, a vital component of the Southwest Power Pool’s long-term transmission master plan designed to modernize the energy infrastructure across the south-central United States.

The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) region stands as one of the largest wind power generation hubs in the U.S., experiencing escalating demand for advanced ultra-high-voltage transmission infrastructure to support its expanding renewable energy sector. HD Hyundai Electric emphasized that this landmark contract will significantly solidify its presence in the competitive North American ultra-high-voltage market, paving the way for future project opportunities.

Beyond the contract announcement, the company leveraged the exhibition to unveil its ambitious “2030 Roadmap,” detailing a vision for next-generation power technologies. This roadmap features groundbreaking innovations such as SF6-free gas-insulated switchgear, UL-certified low- and medium-voltage breakers, and cutting-edge direct current circuit breakers, covering both transmission and distribution systems.

A notable highlight from the event was the debut of HD Hyundai Electric’s innovative 362kV-class dead tank circuit breaker, specifically tailored for the demanding U.S. market. This advanced product, slated for launch in 2028, is engineered to address diverse North American customer needs by delivering unparalleled reliability and exceptional durability.

“Given the substantial investments in North American power infrastructure and the increasing need to replace aging facilities, we remain committed to developing market-tailored products that address these critical demands,” stated a company official. “Our comprehensive lineup of next-generation power equipment, from transmission to distribution solutions, will enable us to significantly expand our footprint and strengthen our market leadership in North America.”
