Korean Air Assumes Chairmanship of SkyTeam’s Key Advisory Group, Strengthening Global Aviation Standards Leadership
Korean Air announced its appointment as the chair of the SkyTeam Safety, Security, and Quality Advisory Group, a significant step that reinforces its influential role in shaping global aviation industry standards.
Following this strategic appointment, Bennet Allen Walsh, Head of Korean Air’s dedicated aviation safety and security division, is set to serve a two-year term as the Chair of the SSQ Functional Executives.
As the designated chair airline, Korean Air will leverage its profound operational expertise to guide and advise on critical safety, security, and quality policies across all SkyTeam member carriers. This leadership position aims to elevate global aviation standards through enhanced collaboration and shared best practices.
The airline has affirmed its commitment to actively collaborating with the SkyTeam board to drive forward essential safety initiatives and broaden cooperation among member airlines by disseminating best practices.
Priority focus areas for Korean Air include strengthening international standards for the safe in-flight use of portable batteries – an issue garnering increased industry attention – and standardizing SkyTeam’s comprehensive emergency response plan, which clearly outlines procedures, organizational structures, and responsibilities during crisis situations.
A Korean Air official emphasized that this prestigious appointment will significantly enhance the airline’s influence within the SkyTeam alliance, foster deeper cooperation among its members, and ultimately bolster Korean Air’s global competitiveness in the dynamic aviation sector.
