Global food giant CJ CheilJedang has forged a significant strategic partnership with Bach Hoa Xanh, a leading Vietnamese supermarket chain, to dramatically expand its presence across Vietnam’s thriving processed food market.
This landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was formally signed in Hanoi, Vietnam, last week, coinciding with the influential Korea-Vietnam Business Forum. The signing ceremony saw the attendance of key figures including Cho Jae-bom, CJ CheilJedang’s APAC regional CEO, and Nguyen Duc Tai, CEO of Mobile World Group, alongside high-ranking government officials from both Korea and Vietnam.
As a crucial component of Mobile World Group, one of Vietnam’s largest and most expansive retail conglomerates, Bach Hoa Xanh boasts a formidable network of over 2,700 stores nationwide. This extensive reach has already positioned it as a vital retail partner for CJ CheilJedang, successfully distributing popular K-food products such as Bibigo dumplings, authentic kimchi, and premium dried seaweed. Sales through the chain have demonstrated impressive growth, increasing at an average annual rate of 20 percent over the past four years.
Under the new agreement, the companies will embark on a robust collaborative strategy: jointly developing innovative processed foods specifically tailored to diverse Vietnamese consumer preferences, significantly expanding K-food distribution channels, and strengthening essential cold-chain infrastructure across the nation.
Beyond product and infrastructure development, both partners also plan to roll out impactful joint marketing campaigns aimed at boosting brand visibility and enhancing customer engagement throughout Vietnam.
Through this strategic alliance, CJ CheilJedang is poised to broaden its market reach beyond its strong foothold in southern Vietnam, actively targeting lucrative northern regions and burgeoning suburban markets. This expansion will be accompanied by a diversification of its product lineup, introducing popular categories like noodles, snacks, and a variety of processed meat products, complementing its already successful flagship offerings.
“Partnering with Bach Hoa Xanh is a key strategic step toward becoming a deeply trusted and beloved brand throughout Vietnam,” a CJ CheilJedang official stated. “We are committed to continually localizing our food products and aggressively strengthening our market presence to meet evolving consumer demands.”
Since its strategic entry into Vietnam in 2015, CJ CheilJedang has demonstrated remarkable and rapid expansion, driven by astute localization strategies and targeted acquisitions. This aggressive growth has resulted in sales skyrocketing more than sevenfold since 2016, firmly establishing the company as a market leader in Vietnam’s highly competitive dumpling and kimchi segments.
