K-pop sensation, boy group CORTIS, has unveiled the powerful choreography for their new track, allowing fans to fully appreciate their dynamic moves.
CORTIS, comprised of members Martin, James, Joohun, Sunghyun, and Gunho, released the conceptual performance film for “REDRED,” the title track from their second mini-album, on the HYBE LABELS YouTube channel at 9 PM on the 21st. While the official music video, which dropped on the 20th, captivated viewers with its focus on vibrant Korean street scenes, traditional eateries, and intimate glimpses into the members’ daily lives, this new film is entirely dedicated to showcasing the intricate choreography.
The performance film brilliantly utilized a shopping center, the same location where the music video was filmed, as its stage. Outdoor corridors, staircases, rooftop ladders, and even crosswalks were ingeniously integrated to create compelling visual compositions. The five members’ synchronized dance on a horizontal crosswalk particularly highlights their seamless and rapid changes in formation. Enhanced by dynamic camera movements and bold zoom-ins and zoom-outs, the video powerfully amplifies the raw energy embedded in the music.
Viewers can also get a detailed look at the choreography that vividly expresses the song’s lyrics. Playful lines like “that’s red-red” (signifying a warning) and “pallang-gwi pallang-gwi” (flappy ears) are brought to life with specific hand gestures around their ears and an ‘X’ shape formed with their arms. Despite incorporating easily imitable dance moves, CORTIS maintains their distinctive style and charisma. The powerful group dances, alive with the members’ individual flair, and movements perfectly synchronized to the infectious rhythm, significantly enhance the viewing experience. Following the success of their first mini-album, this release is also highly anticipated to spark popular short-form challenges.
Notably, CORTIS members are credited as co-choreographers for “REDRED.” They collaboratively built the initial dance drafts, meticulously refining details through discussions with the production team. Drawing inspiration from 1990s aerobics, shuffle dance, and tektonik, the members combined their creative ideas. At the ‘REDRED Release Party’ held on the 20th at Yes24 Live Hall in Seoul, they shared behind-the-scenes insights, stating, “We faced many challenges initially, but after the final mixing, the ‘broken’ sound truly brought out the song’s charm, allowing the work to progress quickly.”
Fans can look forward to more of CORTIS’s unique and captivating performances. The group is slated to begin their music show appearances with Mnet’s ‘M Countdown’ on the 23rd. Their second mini-album, ‘GREENGREEN,’ featuring a total of six tracks including the title song, will be officially released on May 4th. On the same day, at 8 PM, CORTIS will host a second release party at S-Factory in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, where they will unveil live stages of the album’s B-side tracks for the very first time.
