With unseasonably warm weather driving early demand for quintessential summer foods, major supermarkets in Seoul are strategically launching strong early watermelon sales campaigns.
From April 1-16, Emart, a leading retailer, reported a significant 82.8 percent surge in watermelon sales compared to the previous year. During the same period, sales of popular ice cream products and refreshing sports drinks also saw substantial growth, increasing by 40.4 percent and 27.9 percent, respectively, the company announced on Sunday.
Similarly, Lotte Mart experienced a robust climb in demand for seasonal produce and chilled treats, with watermelon sales soaring by 40.5 percent and ice cream sales rising by 10.4 percent over the identical timeframe.
These robust sales figures coincide with anticipated high temperatures; daytime temperatures on Sunday were forecast to reach up to 29 degrees Celsius across Seoul and other inland regions, further fueling consumer desire for cooling provisions.
