Kim Hoe-chun, President and CEO of Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP), recently concluded his inaugural overseas trip since taking office, visiting the Czech Republic to assess the advancement of a pivotal nuclear power project.
During his visit, CEO Kim Hoe-chun specifically focused on inspecting the Dukovany nuclear power plant project. This ambitious initiative involves KHNP constructing two 1,000-megawatt reactors, part of a substantial $19 billion contract secured in June 2025, underscoring KHNP’s global nuclear energy leadership.
The two-day visit, commencing Monday, featured strategic meetings between CEO Kim and prominent Czech government officials, including Industry Minister Karel Havlicek and Transport Minister Ivan Bednarik. He also engaged with key regional leaders, notably South Moravian Governor Jan Grolich, whose region hosts the significant Dukovany project site, ensuring comprehensive stakeholder engagement.
Furthermore, CEO Kim personally toured the expansive construction site in Dukovany, situated approximately 170 kilometers southeast of Prague. He extended valuable encouragement and support to the dedicated workforce actively preparing for the commencement of this transformative nuclear power infrastructure.
Since assuming his role on March 18, CEO Kim has consistently championed a vision of bolstering KHNP’s global competitiveness, with successful overseas nuclear projects like Dukovany being central to this strategic objective.
Expressing the strategic importance of the endeavor, CEO Kim stated, “The Dukovany project represents a pivotal initiative destined to significantly bolster the Czech Republic’s energy security and accelerate the expansion of its carbon-free power system.” He further affirmed KHNP’s commitment: “KHNP is dedicated to executing this project with the utmost integrity and precision, simultaneously elevating the international competitiveness of Korean nuclear power plant technology as a leading pioneer in the global energy market.”
