Leading construction firm Daewoo Engineering & Construction announced Monday the formation of a dedicated data center task force, strategically positioned to capitalize on the surging global demand for advanced AI infrastructure.
Daewoo E&C is committed to cultivating specialized, end-to-end capabilities across data center planning, cutting-edge construction, and comprehensive mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. This strategic focus firmly establishes data centers as a pivotal growth engine for the company.
Through this specialized task force, Daewoo E&C aims to refine its market entry strategies and evolve into a full-cycle developer, encompassing crucial stages from initial investment and meticulous development to seamless operations and proactive management of data center facilities.
This significant strategic move follows a series of impactful agreements signed in January. These partnerships, formed with local governments including Jangseong-gun and Gangjin-gun in South Korea’s South Jeolla Province, alongside key private partners, are geared towards developing state-of-the-art AI data centers.
Among these pioneering ventures are massive hyperscale facilities, boasting capacities of 200 megawatts in Jangseong and an impressive 300 megawatts in Gangjin. Construction is already actively progressing on the Jangseong Pine Data Center, marking a significant milestone.
Expanding its vision beyond domestic borders, Daewoo E&C is also actively exploring promising overseas opportunities, notably in rapidly developing markets like Vietnam, to significantly broaden its international data center portfolio and global footprint.
A company official emphasized, “Data centers represent the core digital backbone of the AI era, serving as critical infrastructure that underpins both robust economic growth and vital national competitiveness. Our commitment to this sector is unwavering.”
The official further stated, “We will strategically leverage the expertise of this dedicated task force to drive our expansion into dynamic overseas markets and rigorously strengthen our comprehensive capabilities across crucial areas such as project planning, strategic land acquisition, and efficient facility operations.”
