Mercedes-Benz Korea Revolutionizes Sales Model with Transparent, Centralized Pricing for Enhanced Customer Experience

Mercedes-Benz Korea is embarking on a significant transformation of its **luxury car sales model**, shifting from fragmented, dealer-led pricing to a centralized, transparent system. This strategic overhaul aims to deliver an unparalleled **customer experience** in Korea’s highly competitive **luxury automotive market**.

During a recent media briefing in Seoul, organized by the Korea Automobile Journalists Association, the premium automaker unveiled its innovative “Retail of the Future (RoF)” strategy. Set to launch on Monday, this new approach will centralize **vehicle inventory and pricing management**, enabling customers across the nation to purchase **Mercedes-Benz cars** under consistent conditions through an advanced **online direct sales system**. This successful model has already been adopted in 12 global markets where Mercedes-Benz operates, including key regions like Germany, the UK, and Sweden.

“We prefer to call it a ‘best price’ policy, rather than merely a same price policy,” stated Lee Sang-guk, Executive Vice President of Digital, Marketing, and Communications at Mercedes-Benz Korea. He clarified that any enhanced promotions available at the point of delivery will be automatically applied, while original contract terms will be maintained if market conditions worsen, guaranteeing customers the most advantageous deal available.

This initiative represents a pivotal departure from the previous system, where **vehicle pricing** could fluctuate significantly based on location, individual dealer, and purchase timing—a long-standing source of frustration for prospective **luxury car buyers**.

Under the progressive new RoF model, Mercedes-Benz Korea will provide forward-looking disclosure of **promotion packages** up to three to four months in advance. This move is designed to significantly enhance **market transparency** and offer customers greater predictability and **pricing visibility** well before they finalize their purchase decisions.

Further elevating the **customer journey**, the company is **digitizing the entire purchase process**. This includes integrating convenient QR-based customer registration, seamless online contracts, and real-time vehicle tracking capabilities into one comprehensive, user-friendly digital platform.

Another crucial enhancement concerns **vehicle delivery timing**. Traditionally, delivery schedules were often dictated by vehicle availability, leaving customers with uncertain waiting periods.

“We are transitioning to a system where vehicles are delivered on the precise date the customer prefers,” explained Park Ji-sung, Head of the RoF process at Mercedes-Benz Korea. “For example, customers desiring a car in July will be matched with vehicles arriving that same month. This is all about providing customers with greater transparency and control over their purchase.”

The RoF strategy also strategically redefines the vital **role of Mercedes-Benz dealers**. While dealers will continue to be integral for hands-on customer interactions such as immersive **test drives** and exceptional **after-sales services**, Mercedes-Benz Korea will now assume central authority over **pricing and inventory management**.

“Historically, dealer earnings were margin-based, but this will now transition to a more stable **commission-based model**, ensuring more consistent and predictable income for our partners,” Lee elaborated. He added that this change will alleviate the pressure on dealers to apply heavy discounts solely due to inventory burdens.

Addressing potential concerns regarding **dealer profitability**, Lee emphatically stressed, “This initiative is not a conflict between Mercedes-Benz Korea and our dealers over margins.” He cited successful implementations in overseas markets, noting that dealers in countries like Australia, Sweden, and Turkey have expressed no desire to revert to the old, dealer-driven sales system.

Lee further emphasized that the previous sales system, heavily focused on protracted **price negotiation**, often limited meaningful engagement and genuine connection with customers.

“In numerous instances, over 90 percent of conversations with our valued customers revolved solely around pricing,” Lee reflected. “Our ambition is to move beyond that and instead focus deeply on showcasing the exceptional **product and brand experience** that Mercedes-Benz offers.”
